CNN Chat Prank

This sort of thing brings a smile to my face. CNN was having an IRC chat between President Clinton, Wolf Blitzer, and online participants. It seems that the IRC server puked many times and one time an enterprising person discovered that the typist for President Clinton hadn't yet logged on again. Thus, he took the President's nickname and sent the following messages:
Personally, i would like to see more porn on the Internet.

Wolf, how about you? Are you all for more porn on the Internet?
You can find the "official" prank page here along with logs of the event and links to the reaction from various media sources. For good "running around like a chicken with your head cut off reporting" check out Fox's report, attempting to tie this prank to the recent DoS attacks, among other things.

FBI on Trail of DoS Perpetrator

According to this news item on BetaNews, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has traced the source of last week's Denial of Service attacks to a computer in Germany. It'd be really unfortunate if they had to do multiple body cavity searches on him.

The Master comments: I'm not sure that BetaNews post was accurate. I've read a lot of stories that seem to indicate this guy WROTE a program similar to the one used for the attacks, but isn't necessarily the perp of the attacks. We'll see. I hope they DO multiple body-cavity searches on the perps, if/when they catch them. With a backhoe.

New Winamp 2.60

Nullsoft has released a new version 2.60 of Winamp. Now, I'm one of the poor suckers who PAID for this when it was still shareware, so I'm a REAL supporter, but hey, it's a great Win(9x/NT) mp3 player. Go get it now :-)

RealNames Hacked

News.Com is reporting that RealNames, a company that allows you to use keywords instead of URLs to access your website, had their database hacked last week, compromising user names, addresses, passwords, and credit card numbers. Is it just me, or does it seem that in the "mad dash" for companies to get into Internet-related businesses, no one bothers to pay attention to security?

Having said this, I'm not sure who uses RealNames, nor who would want to. Whoever does is probably pretty ticked off right now. Thanks Slashdot.

New Ask Hook

Voodoo Extreme has slapped up some new Q&As in their Ask (Brian) Hook column. In today's episode, Hook discusses the possibilities of game content libraries and future ways to avoid the dreaded tiled textures.

Learn vi the Somewhat Less Painful Way

If you do anything in Linux, you will need to be accustomed with text editors. The editor of choice amongst 1337 Linux haX0rs is vi. What it lacks in WYSIWYG features, it makes up in unfriendliness. Once you master the beast, though, it can be a powerful ally. Check this tutorial to find out how. Thanks Linux Today.

And yes, I use vi. J.t.Qbe threatened to install AOL 5.0 on my Win98 installation if I didn't.

UT Bonus Pack Update

Voodoo Extreme pointed me to this post on the GT Forums from CliffyB regarding the status of the Unreal Tournament bonus pack.
The only bugs that remain now are the ones that are related to testing between UT versions. For instance, a person with the bonus pack connecting to a version 400 server having issues, or a person without the bonus pack running version 400 connecting to a 405 server that's running the pack.

This would have gone a lot quicker if we just had maps and did not have new models and the cool Relics. It'll be worth it, though!

Charles Schulz, Dead at 77

I know this isn't game-related, but it is more than a little ironic that Peanuts creator, Charles Schulz, passed away yesterday, one day before his final strip was to appear in papers. The comic pages will never be the same. Rest in peace.
