Carmack Summary from QuakeCon

Gamespy slapped up a summary of John Carmack's speech at QuakeCon. Topics include PCs vs. Consoles, multiple OS support, and issues with mod makers. It's a pretty good read, even if the whole thing seems like one giant indirect quote.

Mozilla M17 Released

Following on the heels of the Netscape 6.0pr2 news, I just saw on Slashdot that Mozilla M17 has been released. This one's been a little bit behind schedule--it's been almost two months since the last milestone. Builds are available for Win32, MacOS, Linux, and Solaris. From the Mozilla main page, "New in M17 are the Classic UI, tooltips, helper apps, and 4.x plugin support on linux." Get 'em while they're hot!

Netscape 6.0pr2

FileClicks claims to have a copy of Netscape 6.0 preview release 2. There's no information on it on the Netscape site just yet. I'll try to find out more.

UPDATE! 6:15 P.M. Netscape finally updated their site with 6.0pr2 information. You can read all about it here.

UT 425 for Mac Released

Hmmm. I must've missed this yesterday. Too bad, we could've used the news. Anyway, Westlake Interactive has released the 425 patch for Unreal Tournament for the MacIntosh. It includes all the fixes from the PC 420 and 425 patches (the last Mac patch was 413). Thanks Stomped.

Anachronox Abdications

It seems that ION Storm's Anachronox team is bleeding employees at a nearly Daikatana-esque pace. According to Stomped the following moves have been made recently.Maybe Eidos should fire everybody except the Deus Ex team and save a little time :)

RA3 Server Patch

The Rocket Arena 3 team has released the 1.1 patch for their popular Quake III Arena mod. This patch is for servers only, so clients don't need to download it. Thanks Blue's News.

Gore Running Mate

Vice President Al Gore has selected Senator Joseph "I Hate Video Games" Lieberman (D-Conn) as his running mate for the upcoming election. Besides his anti-violence-in-gaming stance, the most interesting thing about the choice of Lieberman as V.P. candidate is that he was one of the most outspoken Democratic critics of President Clinton's shenanigans. The news sites are already making a big deal about the fact that he is an orthodox Jew. I hope that doesn't become a focal point of the campaign coverage, as it was when JFK became the first Catholic candidate.
