Pondering the Imponderable

Well, I played Counter Strike (you know, that Half-Life mod that all the kids are talking about) for the first time tonight at the Club Louie LAN party. My newbieness was evident to all, but I did get a couple of good shots in. Will I be dumping Quake III for CS anytime soon? Probably not, but it does make a nice diversion.

Speaking of diversions, I busted out my XWing Collectors Series CD-ROMs and started playing TIE Fighter again. The Collectors Series updates the graphics to the XWing vs. TIE Fighter engine. It's still quite dated, but the gameplay is still awesome. Nothing quite like piloting a TIE, knowing you are two blasts away from oblivion. Having said that, I'll still take a TIE Advanced any old day.

Anachronox Gold

ION Storm's Tom Hall has informed Planet Anachronox that Anachronox has gone gold. They plan to have a demo out by time the game hits store shelves. I'm rather interested to see how this turns out. Can Anachronox clean up ION Dallas' tarnished reputation?

Freelancer Interview

Lancer's Reactor posted an interview with Digital Anvil's Phil Wattenbarger and Jörg Neumann who are hard at work on their massive space sim, Freelancer. I'm just wondering how long it will be before the game comes out. The interview implies that it is some time off. Thanks Voodoo Extreme.

Stop Me If You've Heard This . . .

Guess what kids? ION Storm Dallas is closing! Yep, so says Fat Babies, the site known to be correct at least 50% of the time, give-or-take. This time, however, they add that The Romero is trying to buy back the ION Storm name from Eidos. Thanks Evil Avatar.

For an extra bonus 50 points, which category should we file this under?
  1. They're closing?!? Again?!?
  2. Just die, for Pete's sake!
  3. I stopped caring after the "make you his bitch" ad.
  4. This would make an excellent soap opera. How 'bout As the Hair Turns?
  5. Lemon curry?
  6. If you post something about ION Storm Dallas again, I'm going to shoot out my monitor.

Blue Shift Review

Gamespy has slapped up a review of Blue Shift, Gearbox's latest add-on for Half-Life. Like most of the reviews they say it is decent, but short. Since I don't have OpFor yet, this one is on my list.

Congratulations, Nick!

At last! The hockey writers showed a bit of sanity last night as they finally awarded the Detroit Red Wings' Nicklas Lidstrom the Norris Trophy for best NHL defenseman. Nick has been a runner-up for the past three years. Kudos! Oh, and sign a contract extension while you're at it!
