Pondering the Imponderable

Because Indiana inexplicably won again and Kansas was knocked off, I find myself in first place in my NCAA tourney pool. If Indiana wins, I win. If Maryland wins, another guy wins. Can the Hoosiers keep the miracle going?

OpenOffice 641D Released

OpenOffice 641D, the open-source version of Star Office, has been released. This is the last release before 1.0! I'm downloading it now. We'll see how things have improved. Thanks Slashdot.

UPDATE! I've only gotten a bit of a chance to use it but so far, color me very impressed. It is far more usable than StarOffice 5.2. The only drawback for me is a lack of a viable WordPerfect importer. Gotta check on the status of that. I like what I see.

Yahoo Fast One

Slashdot is reporting that Yahoo has taken it upon itself to reset all of its users' marketing preferences to "Yes." In other words, "Please let any idiot contact me about useless crap." The Slashdot link contains instructions for switching everything back. I checked mine (which I'm currently using for a March Madness pool) and sure enough, everything was marked "yes."

UPDATE! MSNBC got wind of this too.

Pondering the Imponderable

Well, I have even more reason to be happy for the new CrossOver plugin. I discovered that all of ESPN Radio's streams have been switched over to Satan's Own (tMS) media format: Windows Media. The st00pid sports radio station around here only plays the Dan Patrick show and even then it joins the show an hour late and then replays the first hour at the end. Duh.

RTCW 1.31 patch

Activision has released the version 1.31 patch for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Here are the release notes (thanks to the Shack for those). You can get the patch from the following mirrors:

Bleh

Welp, Blue is down again for some reason, so it looks like our finger and news trackers may be down for a while. One of these days I intend to work on getting the Webdog finger tracker code working local so I don't need to depend on an outside source for our finger tracker, but that's going to have to wait for our web server upgrade. Whenever I can get that done :-/
