Pondering the Imponderable

Man, I'm glad I had no interest in watching the All-Star game. Calling the game at 7-7 after 11 innings? Sheesh. What a load of crap. I'm sure the people who paid a king's ransom for tickets are thrilled. I couldn't think of a way that baseball could become a bigger fiasco, but they did it. Way to go guys. I hope you all choke to death on your money.

Instead, my wife and I had a friend over. We popped in the Episode I DVD (I don't care what anyone says. I like that movie.) and drank martinis. Life is good, even if you don't make a zillion dollars. Or maybe especially if you don't make a zillion dollars.

The Master comments: Yup, pay $175 to watch a meaningless game, then make it meaningless by calling it a tie. Whoo. You sure got your money's worth on that one.

A.T. Hun comments: Not only did they have to pay $175 (face value) for the tickets, but if you want tickets to the game you also have to buy tickets to all the other All Star events like the Home Run Derby. Baseball might have a lot of problems getting a lot of things right, but they do an outstanding job at screwing their fan base. It was very fitting that all of this took place at Miller Park, a stadium that stands as a monument to the arrogance that is Major League Baseball.

CPUs on UT2K3

AnandTech put their Unreal Tournament 2003 benchmark to good use again, this time testing how CPUs stack up. One thing is obvious, the engine is no longer as painfully CPU bound as the original UT engine was. I'm really looking forward to the demo. The screenshots look sweet and according to Anand, I should get some pretty sweet fps on my box. Thanks Shacknews.

America's Army Update

The official America's Army website has been updated with news of their plans for the game. Next Monday, there will be the ability to set up community servers where you can get the credit you need to advance. On July 25, the sniper school add-on will be released. On August 22, Airborne school and Ranger school will be added to the mix. Cool, free stuff--all from the U.S. Army, no less. Whoda thunk it? Thanks Blue's News.
