Sun Will Ship Solaris For Intel

Some cool news for Solaris fans--Sun is going to ship an x86 version of Solaris after all. Months ago Sun announced that they wouldn't be producing an Intel version of Solaris; apparently the outrage from Solaris fans has changed Sun's mind.

Long Tiring Day

This morning my wife and I took a few minutes and signed our lives away: we closed on our first house. Now I get to spend the rest of the week packing up our belongings and moving them 90 minutes north to the new Haus of Qbe. Anyone want to help?

After signing our lives away, we went to a mattress--er, dog kennel--store and signed them away again, buying a nice new king size dog kennel to replace the one damaged in the tornado 2 weeks ago. On Wednesday night we officially move in. It'll be very nice to get out of the rental game!

A.T. Hun comments: For those of you who don't understand the mattress/dog kennel reference, this link will help. I nearly wet myself when I read this post last night!

And did those feet in ancient times . . .

Flash Player Vulnerability

Macromedia has announced that there is a buffer-overflow vulnerability in its Flash player. The bug could allow for a hacked flash movie to gain unauthorized access to your computer. This bug exists in the Windows and Unix versions. The latest version on Flash is available right here.

Hun-Speak: My Next PDA

Prepare for a coronary; it's time for more original content from The Haus! Today, in the latest edition of my Hun-Speak column, I ponder what my next PDA will be like and why it may be a long time before it is actually in my hands. Are you in the market for a PDA upgrade? Are you finding what you are looking for?

Pondering the Imponderable

Well, it looks like we blew it. I should have gone to GenCon this year. Next summer they are moving it from Milwaukee to Indianapolis. How that is a "step up" is beyond me. I would have liked the opportunity to rub elbows with some game designers and to mock all the people dressed like Klingons or heaven only knows what. Oh well. I guess next time I go to Milwaukee, I'll just have to go on another Lakefront tour and drink their beer. J.t. and I have been on their tour more times than either of us can remember. Thankfully, Mrs. Qbe could always be our designated driver.

J.t.Qbe comments: I would've been happy to go with you to GenCon this year, but our lives have been way too busy. It was a lot of fun when I went in '91 and '92; I got to see the tech demo for Ultima Underworld and meet some of my favorite game designers (Steve Jackson, Mike Stackpole, and I got Liz Danforth to autograph my Tunnels & Trolls rulebook). Those were the days. Hey, set aside time and I'll go to GenCon/Indianapolis with you next summer.
