Pondering the Imponderable -- 11:57 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Now that my Mandrake 9 installation is pretty much the way I want it, I was able to turn my attention to a bit of gaming today. I played UT2K3's double domination for the first time tonight. I think I still like bombing run better, but double domination is an awful lot of fun and a definite improvement on the original UT's domination. I played a little single player too, finishing off a couple of deathmatch levels in the tourney. While I liked UT, I like UT2K3 a lot more. And it runs in Linux! What more could you want?

The Master comments: I spent some time playing UT2K3 this weekend as well. Needed to turn off hardware 3D sound, and cranked down the texture details, and now everything seems to be fine. Some stuttering in heavy crossfires, but otherwise not bad. Double domination is great, but wow are the bots tougher now than in the demo. I was getting pounded in the CTF levels in single player, and I'm ruuning it at average difficulty. Think I need to get some more teamwork type players instead of aggressive/accurate players.

NFL Week #6 So Far -- 11:53 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Well, it wasn't as bad as it could have been, but it could have been a lot better. Eeyore won the two games we had different on last-second plays. But hey, that's football! With one game remaining I am 6-7. Eeyore is 8-5. I missed the Sunday night game because the Red Wings were on ESPN II. A man's got to have his priorities!

WineX 2.2 Released -- 9:13 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Transgaming has released WineX 2.2, their WINE gaming fork. You can get the details on the release here. I sucked down the CVS tonight and installed it. I had been waiting to reinstall it on my new Mandrake 9 installation anyway. I haven't gotten a chance to do much with it yet. The big thing is that it supports Everquest (see the release notes for a few caveats though). Thanks Slashdot.

UT2K3 Patch Fixes -- 7:27 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Unreality got a list of all the changes in the upcoming patch for Unreal Tournament 2003. They mainly look like gameplay tweaks. Hopefully they will have some fixes for some of the problems people like The Master have been having. Thanks Shacknews.
