UT2K3 Review

I normally don't find game reviews that entertaining to read. This review of Unreal Tournament 2003 is the exception. Read it. Enjoy it. Thanks Blue.

By the way, my favorite bombing run move is to pass the ball to whoever is attacking me. That switches me back to my previous weapon, usually the flak cannon. A dose of flak or two later, I'm on the run with the ball again. That move really surprises a lot of people :) Also, low grav, zoom instagib double domination on the Egyptian map is more fun than one person should be legally able to have.

Robert Duffy .plan Update

id's Robert Duffy updated his .plan with news that the SDKs for Quake III Arena/Team Arena 1.32 are available for Windows and Linux. Links are included in his update.

Sniper Suspect Nabbed

It appears that the authorities have arrested suspected snipers in the Washington D.C. area. I hope these guys are actually the ones so everybody can breathe there again. It also appears that they made some stupid mistakes that lead to their capture. Of course, with that many people looking for you . . .

Office 11 and XML

I'm known for bashing Microsoft when they need a good bashing, but here I believe they have a genuinely good idea. MS Office 11 will use XML. I'm not sure if that will be its default mode or with there will be some version of the DOC format as default. At any rate, one of the inventors of XML, Tim Bray, made some comments on MS's decision. He loves it. Here's a snip:

"So it seems to me," he concludes, in delightfully prophetic mode, "that when the huge universe of MS Office documents becomes available for processing by any programmer with a Perl script and a bit of intelligence, all sorts of wonderful new things can be invented that you and I can't imagine."

If documents produced by the new Office are really that open, it will be a mammoth leap forward. Here's to hoping that it really is true! Thanks Slashdot.

UT2K3 Interview

PlanetUnreal interviewed Epic's Tim Sweeney and Cliff Bleszinski about Unreal Tournament 2003's production, current state, and future. I just finished the single-player game yesterday. I can't wait to find out what goodies are in store for us in the bonus pack! Thanks Blue's News.
