Duel of the Fates JKII Map

A couple of mappers have produced a map for Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast based on the infamous Duel of the Fates in Episode I. It includes the Naboo hangar and the whole reactor complex, even including red force fields that open and close from time to time. Very cool, but very system-intensive. Unfortunately, it does not include bot support.

Mozilla Mail 1.3 and Spam

The Mozilla team is working on spam filtering for Mozilla Mail 1.3 alpha. The basic code is already in place. It looks like a handy way to deal with it. We'll see how this plays out over the next couple of months. I've been using Mozilla Mail ever since KDE changed KMail so that it can only use the horribly broken KAddressBook. I've been pretty happy with it. Thanks MozillaZine.

WineX 2.2.1 Released

Transgaming has released WineX 2.2.1. WineX is their fork of the WINE project (the Windows compatibility layer) to better support DirectX-based games. This version claims, among other things, to provide a 200-300% speed-up in Jedi Knight II. I sucked down the CVS and am compiling it. We'll see if those statements hold true. Thanks Linux Game Tome.

My wife managed to snag the last widescreen DVD of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones from Toys R Us. Only $10! Quite a bargain. It really shows off your DVD player/sound system. Very cool indeed.

UT2K3 Sales

According to this article about Digital Extremes, Unreal Tournament 2003 sold a whopping 800,000 copies in its first month alone. That's awfully impressive, given its relatively steep system requirements. I know I like it! Thanks Shack News.
