Micro$oft and Volume Licensing -- 1:23 pm CST, Update by The Master
Want to see the way to make money in the software market nowadays? Check out a MAJOR gotcha in M$'s volume licensing scheme. Yeah, it's a scheme alright.
A.T. Hun comments: While nothing MS does anymore shocks me, I would hope that they keep this sort of thing up. There comes a time when even the most cash-rich companies will not want to be put over a barrel like this. If MS screws over enough paying customers, they will start walking. If I were a shareholder, I'd want to have some words about this.
J.t.Qbe comments: It's the typical Microsoft cash grab: you pay them no matter what you do. It's good for Microsoft, since it keeps the cash flowing in and pleases the stockholders. But as more and more of these things come to light, and as free software gets more and more useful/usable, the backlash will start to build. In a big company, what's the better deal: a forced subscription to Microsoft upgrades (and the necessary hardware upgrades) at hundreds/thousands per seat, or Linux/OpenOffice/apache for, um, free?

Let the Games Begin! -- 9:55 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Now that the formality (for Red Wings' fans) of the NHL regular season schedule is over, it's time for the real season to begin: the Stanley Cup Playoffs! First on tap for the Wings are the ever-pesky Anaheim Mighty Ducks. My prediction? Red Wings in five. ESPN has a page for this series that's worth checking out.
