DirectX 9.0b Released -- 10:39 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Microsoft has released DirectX 9.0b, available from Windows Update or this page. No word on what has changed, other than "security and performance updates." Well, there you go. When I was using Windows, it was my practice to let a few people try a new DirectX before installing it myself. No sense in finding all the bugs yourself, especially when there is no M$-supported way to uninstall it. Thanks Blue's News.

The summer doldrums are almost over. My beloved Detroit Lions open up training camp today! The first NFL pre-season game between the Bucs and Jets, the American Bowl in Tokyo, will be played on August 2. The games start for real on September 4. W00t! It's about time. Baseball is making me nauseous.

Mozilla 1.5 Alpha Released -- 11:49 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The Mozilla team has released version 1.5 alpha of their browser suite. You can read the release notes and download a build for your OS. While I'm happy that work continues, I'm going to stick with 1.4 until Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird get up to speed. Unless, of course, 1.5 introduces some brand new can't-live-without-it features.

No DOOM3 This Year? -- 11:39 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Since every other site and their monkey are talking about this, I'd better too (I'm such a follower). HomeLan Fed gleaned from Activision's quarterly conference call that DOOM3 has been pushed back to 2004. This contradicts what was previously said at E3. I don't care so much when it comes out as long as it is awesome when it does. Thanks, um, everybody.

Hussein Sons Killed -- 4:06 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I know this isn't the standard Haus fare, but I feel it needs to be reported. U.S. forces have killed Uday and Qusay Hussein, sons of Saddam Hussein, the deposed Iraqi leader. Qusay was to be Saddam's successor. Both were known for committing atrocities, especially Uday. Troops were tipped off by an Iraqi. Hopefully the old man won't be too far behind.
