Finished Undrentide

Well, that's got to be some kind of record. I just finished Shadows of Undrentide. I only bought it on Monday. It's not that the game is that short (although it's nowhere near as long as NWN itself). I've just wanted to play the game so much that I spent every spare moment (and some not-so-spare moments) playing it. The ending seems to hint that Hordes of the Underdark will continue the story. I'll have to whip up a review once I have a celebratory beverage :) My $.02 review: Cool stuff. Buy it.

NWN Movies

I just discovered an easier way to view the movies for Neverwinter Nights in Linux. I downloaded the RAD Video Tools and installed them using WineX. The tools come with a program called binkplay.exe. You have to supply the /D argument to tell it what your desktop size and color depth is (run binkplay.exe without any arguments for all the details). On my relatively fast system (Athlon XP 1800+), it worked great. The opening NWN movie was a big laggy, but higher quality than when I tried to convert it to an OGM. As always, YMMV.

Shadows of Undrentide

Boy, so far Shadows of Undrentide has been awesome. I liked Neverwinter Nights in general, but SoU has been better from a gameplay standpoint. I'm trying out one of the prestige classes, the Arcane Archer. I really like the Imbue Arrow (think fireball arrow). If you like NWN, you should get SoU too.

Bleh

Eeyore got a PlayStation 2 for her birthday; the present is just a month early--no biggie. She also got Grand Theft Auto. My polite, quiet, reserved wife becomes an absolute monster when playing this game. I've never seen so many flying bodies in my life. And I play FPSes almost exclusively. I must remember not to annoy her when she's behind the wheel . . .

J.t.Qbe comments: I guess you've never played any of the Carmageddon games. GTA's body count is nothing compared to the body count in those. If you're playing them correctly, anyway.

A.T. Hun comments: Eeyore has a violent streak? Whodathunkit?

The Master comments: I told E about Carmageddon. She was *ahem* excited. I am so afraid for the future.

J.t.Qbe comments: Carmageddon 2 is the way to go; I've heard unfavorable things about Carmageddon 3, and Carmageddon 1 is too old (runs best under DOS with a Voodoo card). Fun, fun games. . .
