Pondering the Imponderable

I finally got fed up with gunk building up on the rollers of my trackball mouse so I bought an optical Logitech Marble Mouse. I had no problems getting it to work in Linux, although I'm still working on the little scroll up/down buttons. At least I know that when this one comes time for cleaning, it will take a few seconds as opposed to a near eternity for my old one.

In more expensive news, I'm looking at the possibility of adding a subwoofer to my stereo system. Basically, I want the seismic charges in Episode II to sound more, well, seismic. I don't want to spend a ton of money, but I'd also like to get something that will last. We'll see where this goes.

Bleh

Being woken up at 6:05 am, and then being told your database is down, is not the way to start your morning. Graaagggghhhrrr.

And while I'm griping, what the heck is it about websites that require a browser running at at least 1024x768 resolution, and those whose e-commerce sections are so slow as to make a slug look like lightning. Frippin' EVERYTHING is annoying me today . . .

DOOM3 Preview

CGW got to make a trip to id Software to take a look at DOOM3. There are some very minor spoilers about plot line involved, but they are marked if you don't want to know. I can't wait until this bad-boy is out. Thanks Blue's News.

Deus Ex: Invisible War Review

That's right kids, The Master has finally put up some fresh content. In a first, it's a review! Check out my Deus Ex: Invisible War review. While I gave it a slightly lowered 7 out of 10, I expect Ion Storm to improve this rating in the near future with patch releases. Enjoy!

Linux 2.4.24 Fixes Exploit

Linux kernel 2.4.24 has been released to fix a memory management problem that could lead to a local root exploit. Here's the information on the problem. You can download 2.4.24 in full or patch from kernel.org. I compiled it earlier this afternoon. I'm getting pretty good at it, actually :) Thanks Slashdot.
