When Game Development Crashes and Burns

Boomtown has a postmortem of sorts, detailing the slight rise and catastrophic fall of Escape Factory. You say you've never heard of a game company called "Escape Factory"? Read the article and you'll see why. It's a good read for anyone thinking of starting their own company. Methinks that a business degree probably would have saved them. Thanks Evil Avatar.

UT2K4 Tips Page Updated

I remembered a couple of tips I wanted to add to the Unreal Tournament 2004 Tips page. I added information on speeding up map loading times, switching seats in vehicles, and how to bind the Skaarj model's taunts to keys. Enjoy!

Pondering the Imponderable

It was a great day to be a Detroit sports fan yesterday! The Red Wings overcame a lethargic start to beat the Predators 3-1 in the opening game of their first-round playoff series. The Tigers (yes, the same Tigers who lost 119 games last year) completed the sweep of their first series of the year at Toronto with a 6-3 win. The home opener is today. I jokingly called my dad after their first win and said that they were on a pace to go 162-0. I never would have thought that two days later, they'd still be on that pace. I know, it's a long season, but last year it took them all of April to amass three wins and it wasn't until May that they won their first series. Looks like I can wear the olde English "D" with a bit more pride this year.

Half-Life 2 Movies Released

Valve released some movies showing various bits of Half-Life 2 gameplay. They are all available from 3D Gamers. They are BINK executables. I'm going to see if I can convince WineX to play them. Thanks Blue's News.

Update! Yep, WineX plays them just fine. I downloaded the "striders" one and it seems to be similar if not exactly the same as one that was released earlier. (Ed. note: It's high-res footage of the E3 trailer from last year)
