Sun Will Open Solaris . . . No, Really

Once again Sun COO Jonathan Schwartz has vowed that Sun will make Solaris open source. Naturally, no license is mentioned. He also takes the opportunity, as usual, to take shots at Red Hat. I think he must be paid according to the number of times he can work "Red Hat" into a conversation. One thing is for sure: Sun is just going off the Unintentional Comedy chart. Thanks Ars Technica.

UT2K4 Rebate Follow-Up

I got a card in the mail yesterday telling me what I already knew, that my UT2K4 rebate had been rejected (story) because it was outside the qualifying period (my EB Games receipt was dated two days before the game supposedly came out). I called the 800 number on the card and the person I spoke with said that they are trying to get this issue resolved. Apparently, they've been getting quite a few calls from not-too-happy gamers about it. I was cordial and the person I spoke with was very friendly. Hopefully this can get resolved . . .

UT2K4 3223 Patch Changelog

There is a post on the Atari forums containing the changelog for the 3223 patch for Unreal Tournament 2004. Epic is rushing this patch out because it fixes the KIntersect crash that Windows users have been enjoying since the last patch and that Linux users have been enjoying since the beginning.

BayStar Dumps Preferred SCO Stock

BayStar and SCO announced an agreement in which BayStar will sell its SCO preferred stock for $13 million and 2,105,263 shares of common stock. In about half of a year the Royal Bank of Canada and BayStar have lost almost half of their $50 million investment in SCO. You have to wonder how SCO is going to come up with the cash to stay afloat, much less continue their legal attacks. Not surprisingly, they also announced that they will be delaying their second quarter earnings report. That should be ugly. Thanks Linux Today.
