Obsidian on NWN2 for Linux/Mac

An Obsidian developer made this post on their forums, clarifying the team's current position on a Linux and/or Mac client for Neverwinter Nights 2. Here's a healthy snip:

We have by no means made any decisions to abandon the Linux or Mac communities at this time. Nor is it such a black and white issue over whether Atari or Obsidian decides what happens. Atari has been very open and a fantastic partner. As a member of the management on this project, I'd like to ask that the contents of this message supercede any prior dev comment on this issue.

. . .

Implementing this new rendering path [Ed. note: DirectX] does not preclude us from adding programming staff to upgrade the OpenGL renderer however. We don't plan to disrupt the platform independent nature of the engine -- it wouldn't make sense for us to do so. But unfortunately, the decision to support the Linux or Mac is not one we're able to put into stone at this point. I do want to reiterate my feelings on it, and that if I have my way, having owned both a Mac and several PC's running Linux myself, we'll be shipping on all three platforms. I just can't in good conscience promise if and when so far away from ship.

What I can say is to please hang in there, we're not against the idea by any means, we hear the call for multi-platform support, and it will definitely stay on our radar as we plan out the project.

Thanks Linux Games.

TTimo Interview

Linux Games interviewed id's Timothee "TTimo" Besset. TTimo does the Linux and Mac porting for id's games. They talk about how he got the job, why id makes their games portable at all, and (perhaps most importantly) how far off the Linux binaries for DOOM3 might be.
