"Four!" "Three, sir!"

I was just filling out a rebate form for Norton Systemworks 2004. Under the "Proof of purchase requirements" they have "1) Proof of purchase . . . 2) Enclose a copy of your dated sales receipt . . . 4) Enclose proof of previous ownership." That's right, there's no 3). My guess is that they must be a) idiots, b) bad proofreaders, or d) something else.

The Master comments: Considering their tech support staff, and their inability to read a simple email in plain english, I'm guessing c). Or would that be a). Heh :-)

A.T. Hun comments: In Symantec's defense, it was in fact a Best Buy rebate form.

NFL Season Starts Tomorrow!

Yes folks, the most wonderful day of the year is almost here! Since the NHL seems intent on labor armageddon, the NFL will have to keep us nice and cozy warm as the temperatures drop. Naturally, Eeyore and I will continue our fearless prognostication and pick all the games for your amusement. Just as a reminder, here are our totals so far as we enter our fifth season:

YearA.T. HunEeyore
2003169-87 (.660)168-88 (.656)
2002162-93-1 (.633)155-100-1 (.605)
2001150-98 (.605)141-107 (.569)
2000161-87 (.649)132-101 (.566)
Overall642-365-1 (.637)596-396-1 (.601)

I saw in the Detroit Free Press this morning that my beloved Lions have the toughest schedule in the NFL this year, tied with Carolina and Washington for that dubious title. The new scheduling system doesn't give the bad teams from last year the breaks they might have gotten in the past. Thankfully, past success doesn't always translate into future victories.

DOOM3 Beta Patch and Demo News

id's Robert Duffy updated his .plan with news that FileShack has the 1.05 beta patch for DOOM3. His .plan has the list of all the fixes and changes. He also comments on the forthcoming demo, the SDK, and Linux dedicated server. Here's the word:

The SDK is also ready to go and as soon as the update is out in non beta form the SDK will be made available for download.

The Linux Dedicated server is also ready to go and will also be available as soon as the update is non beta.

The DOOM 3 demo is also coming in a few days, it is finishing the last stages of QA. It should give everyone waiting to buy the game a taste of what DOOM 3 is all about. It contains 3 levels of the game and is single player only.

Once the patch is out, I hope to see the Linux client binaries follow very soon thereafter. I'm itching for some native DOOM3 action.

Hun-Speak: Gaming Memories

For one reason or another, I've been waxing nostalgic lately. I began to think of big moments in my gaming life. I've listed a few of them for you in my new Hun-Speak column entitled Gaming Memories. Check it out and take a walk with me down memory lane. As an added bonus, learn the origin of J.t.Qbe's nickname! Remember, this is a TheHaus.net exclusive.
