More Non-Standard Kernel Fun

Well, I found out that the patch for the visor module (needed so I can sync my PDA) with the 2.6.9-ck3 patches causes an oops. Sigh. I just copied over the old 2.6.9 visor.c file, deleted and visor*.o or .ko files and recompiled the module. Now it seems to work. That's life on the bleeding edge, I guess.

Cegeda 4.1.1 Released

Transgaming has released Cedega 4.1.1, the latest version of their popular WINE gaming fork that lets you play many Windows games in Linux. You can read the complete release notes and download a copy (binaries are subscriber-only). They now offer a time-limited demo so you can try it out before you decide whether or not you want to plunk down cash on it.

Mozilla Firefox 1.0 Released

The Mozilla team has released version 1.0 of their Firefox browser for Windows, Linux, and Mac. Cool stuff! I was using one of the beta releases. Hopefully all the extensions will catch up now. I also hope that the extension and theme APIs are cast in stone so we don't have to wait forever to update extensions just because a newer version of Firefox came out.

Non-Standard Kernel

Well, this is my first adventure with a non-standard kernel. I applied the -ck3 patches to the 2.6.9 Linux kernel. The standard 2.6.8.1 kernel had problems with burning CDs while the standard 2.6.9 kernel has a nasty kswapd bug that starts eating up the CPU when memory gets full. The -ck3 patches have fixes for the kswapd bug. I think Linus needs to rethink things and cut a 2.7 branch so 2.6 can stabilize. Using 2.6 as both a stable and development branch is introducing too much weirdness for my good.

NFL Week #9 So Far

Well, this weekend was every bit as joyful as I thought it would be. I am 7-6 so far while Eeyore is 6-7. With as many mediocre teams as there are in the NFL right now, I would guess that flipping a coin would give you just as good results as actually trying to pick the games.
