Happy Birthday, UT! -- 11:02 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Beyond Unreal reminded the world that five years ago today, the original Unreal Tournament (or UT99 as it has come to be known) was released. I had reinstalled that for a while. I'll have to get it back now that I have more HD space. Of course today my rig can run it superbly, which definitely wasn't the case with my box five years ago. I never got into the UT vs. Q3A argument (OK, maybe I did a bit) because I liked both games. Still do.

NFL Week #12 Final -- 10:58 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Eeyore and I finished this weekend tied at a scintillating 12-4. Year-to-date that makes me 111-65 (.631) while Eeyore is 109-67 (.619). Hooray for us! My fantasy team got creamed like so much corn against the best team in the league. Thankfully, the team beneath me lost so I believe I have clinched a playoff spot regardless of what happens this weekend.

HL2 Surprise? Deathmatch! -- 10:48 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The recently announced "surprise" for Half-Life 2 owners has semi-officially been announced as deathmatch! There is even a screenshot included that shows combat of a most nefarious kind. Thanks Blue's News.

Novell Launches Another Broadside -- 9:09 am CST, Update by The Master

Check these out:

• Declaration of Kellie Carlton of Novell: This indicates that when Novell sold the Unix business to SCO, they knowingly kept all their patents and copyrights to Unix.
• USL distributed UNIX 32V code without copyrights, so, there goes some copyright arguments. When you distributed code back in the 70's, you lost your rights to copyright on it. Maybe no-one has the rights to UNIX they thought they did.
• The 1994 USL-UCAL settlement agreement: A Groklaw contributor got copies of the uber-secret settlement out of California by taking advantage of a Public Records Law. It makes for interesting reading.

I wonder what SCO's pain threshold is at this point. Their lawyers must be mainlining painkillers. Heh.

Bleh -- 2:00 pm CST, Update by The Master

Eeyore and I went out today to ring the bells at the Salvation Army kettles. First time I've ever done this, and I really enjoyed it. We got a pretty good donation rate too, about 50%, so I'm pretty pleased about that.

A.T. Hun comments: That's only because you look so pitiful, TM. Personally, I usually give all my money to the Salvation Air Force *rimshot*

In other news, you know you've truly earned the ire of a computing community when the crackers deface your site with a simple banner, that matches the rest of your site design, that says "We own all your code - give us all your money". Wow. Most crackers couldn't be bothered to go through that much work.
