Microsoft to Back Off on Passport -- 11:09 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Apparently Microsoft has finally come to the conclusion that its Passport scheme was something that no one wanted. So they are going to stop asking web sites to use it. I have done everything in my power to make sure that I never had a Passport account, despite some persuading by relatives. I don't trust Microsoft to secure the world's largest hunk of lead, to say nothing of my credit card information. Hopefully this will at least slow down their plans for world domination. Thanks Slashdot.

Bleh -- 8:44 am CST, Update by The Master

I got the parts to build a new AMD Athlon 64 system for myself, and spent the better part of Tuesday getting it assembled. Then I find out the system won't POST past the initial startup. It appears I got a bad CPU. Whee. I get to wait 'till next week to try again. I am so not excited.
