NHL: Not Getting Better -- 10:33 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
The NHL and NHLPA gave the final whomp to the base of the skull of the 2004-2005 season tonight when the owners of the Boston, Chicago, and several small market franchises put the kibosh on a tentative agreement. Thankfully, Bill Wirtz (the owner of the Blackhawks) is old, so if God is merciful we should be relieved of him someday soon. Few people will be remembered for driving a sports franchise into the ground intentionally. Bill Wirtz is one of them. I pity Blackhawks fans--if there are any left. Hopefully some better owner can resurrect that Original Six franchise like the Illitch family saved the Red Wings from the clutches of the Norris family.

NHL: Not Quite Dead? -- 9:30 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
In the "well this just gets weirder, doesn't it" department, reports originating with the Hockey News indicate that there may be a deal in principle between the NHL and the NHLPA. There are even rumors that the season will be officially uncancelled tomorrow. I'd love to see some hockey, but I've got to admit that this one has me absolutely bewildered. I want to believe it's true, but I've got this fear that I'm going to be let down again.
