Mars Express not Broken Yet

Good news: the Mars Express probe has deployed the first of it's 3 radar booms successfully, according to the BBC. There was major concern that deploying these booms could result in possible catastrophic damage to the spacecraft. Thankfully things are going well so far.

Firefox 1.1 Feature List

The Fedora Core blog has put up a feature list for Firefox 1.1. There's a lot of good stuff to be found in the new trunk branch of Firefox, and it looks like people are using it already.

New Old Box

My inlaws are upgrading their computer and wondered if my wife and I wanted their old one since they no longer have any use for it. Naturally, I said yes. I'm not sure what CPU or even how much memory is in it, but I believe it is in the 1Ghz range. What do I plan on doing with it? One word: MythTV. Stay tuned, this could get interesting . . .

Court Strikes Down Broadcast Flag

The U.S. District Court of Appeals has ruled that the FCC doesn't have the authority to require a broadcast flag. This flag would have rendered many high-definition T.V. tuners unusable and allowed broadcasters to make their programs uncopiable. Of course, this just means that the MPAA and others will use their various bought-out congressmen to write a law to demand it. That law would almost certainly be challenged too. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Of course, I think that the whole concept of the government forcing digital T.V. down our throats is one of the biggest fiascos in American history, which is saying something.

Bleh

I've been reading Schlock Mercenary for the last two weeks (since it was mentioned on Penny Arcade, as a matter of fact) and this guy dishes some seriously funny stuff. Today's comic made me laugh out loud, but my interest in military history would probably reflect that.
