Firefox and Thunderbird 1.0.6 Released

The Mozilla team has released 1.0.6 versions of their stand-alone browser, Firefox, and email client, Thunderbird. These new versions fix problems with some extensions.

As an aside, you really don't know how handy Firefox's tabbed browsing is until you try to suffer with IE without it. Multiple windows just don't cut the mustard. It improves usability and my efficiency dramatically.

Serious Sam 2 Interview

Beyond3d has posted a fascinating interview with Dean Sekulic of Croteam about the new graphics engine they've put together for Serious Sam 2. This thing reads like a Carmack .plan entry, so fortify the brain cells before reading :-)

Google Moon

To honor the 36th year anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, Google has created a new website called "Google Moon", where you can virtually visit the moon courtesy of Google's maps technology and NASA's moon imagery. Cool stuff.

Pondering the Imponderable

Now that I'm finally on vacation, I get to enjoy the wonder and glory that is 56K AOL dialup. Quite a shock when you are used to EZ-Net's 2Mbps cable! I can't complain because my in-laws buy me good beer, so it's a wash :)

Before I left I was getting back into Neverwinter Nights. I decided to play a class I'd never played before: a rogue. I pictured him as a cheeky sort of guy a la Eric Idle's character in the Monty Python "Nudge nudge" sketch. I play through Shadows of Undrentide and am now going through Hordes of the Underdark. Right now, he's a halfling rogue (12)/bard (4)/red dragon disciple (1). I'll say this, I've gotten plenty of mileage out of NWN and its expansions.

Michael Abrash Interview

QuakeMarine has posted an interesting interview with Michael Abrash. They discuss what he's doing now, and what he thought of the development process that became Quake 1.

We live in an apartment with no central air, so I spent the weekend huddling in the living room while our poor window AC unit made a valiant effort at keeping us comfortable. I hate summer heat.

We picked up the new Harry Potter on Saturday, and Eeyore finished it Sunday. I'm half-way through it, and it's been a much more enjoyable read than Order of the Phoenix.
