Rootkit: The Real Story -- 12:27 pm CST, Update by The Master
While the title is a bit inflamatory, the article is a good read: Wired's Bruce Schneier posted a new article discussing the Real Story of the Rogue Rootkit. This is an excellent article covering the Sony XCP root kit, and the security industry's complete lack of response to it. Good stuff.

Quake 4 1.04 Patch Released -- 1:46 pm CST, Update by The Master
Raven and id have posted the 1.04 patch for Quake 4 on their FTP site.

- Added a Game Browser filter for full or empty servers.
- Players can now connect to a server while the Game Browser is refreshing.

- The dedicated server window will now be titled with the si_name setting instead of "Quake 4".
Unemployed--But At Least Enix Loves Me -- 9:18 am CST, Update by J.t.Qbe
Yesterday was my last day at work. For the first time in 20 years I'm officially unemployed without any good prospects. Hmmm. I guess it's time to stop shaving and start hanging around the house in sweatpants...but I've been a telecommuter for the last 4 years, so I'm used to that.
However, and I don't believe that this can be purely coincidence, not only is today my first day of unemployment but it's also the day Dragon Quest VIII hits the store shelves. It's the one video game I've been looking forward to this year (though I'll also be spending the rest of my EB credit on the new Wild Arms game, also out today), and as soon as I finish my (expletive deleted) homework I'm off to the store. My former coworkers were kind enough to take up a collection for a parting gift in the form of an EB gift card, so I'm all set: sending the wife and kids off to the in-laws' house tomorrow for some quality DQ time.
