Adobe Opens ActionScript VM

I saw on the Penguin.SWF blog that Adobe has donated the source code to ActionScript virtual machine to the Mozilla Foundation. Obviously, some would like Adobe to open source Flash 9. That's not likely to happen. The press release gives some details and is certainly fully buzzword-compliant. Here's also the Mozilla project page for this, codenamed Tamarin. Kudos to Adobe for opening up more code.

VOTE!

Hey all you 'mericans living in 'merica, read up on this issues quickly if you haven't done so already and then get out to vote! If you don't, I don't want to hear you complain for the next two years either.

NFL Week #8 and #9 Final

Well, between the two weeks, I was a 13-14 while Eeyore was 14-13. Obviously we're coming back to Earth in a big way. All told I'm 76-51 (.598) while Eeyore is 82-45 (.646). I still can't get over the fact that the Lions won. I'll take it. Since I know you're dying for an update on my fantasy team, I actually won this week too. I'm in third place in my division, but everyone in the other division has a worse record.

Valve Multicore Support

Ars Technica has a nice write-up on how Valve is providing multicore support in their Source engine. The article is a bit technical without being mind-numbingly so. I find these issues to be absolutely fascinating even if I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to deal with them. It also makes me wonder if future games will be almost impossible to support via Cedega with all the threads being dealt with behind the scenes. I'm guessing it will be at least 2008 if not later before we even see games that will make significant use of multiple cores, to say nothing of demanding them.
