NHL on Google Video

I just found out that Google Video has all NHL games for viewing or downloading. Right now, it's even advertising-free. The games seem to make it to the site about a day after the fact. That's pretty cool, since I will be able to see less than a quarter of the Red Wings' games on Versus and NBC. The NHL may do some dopey things, but they've done a lot to embrace technology and, best of all, provide it to their fans for free.

When Laptop Batteries Fail

PC Pitstop did a demonstration to show what happens when laptop batteries fail. This was a bit of setup in that they created the situation for the battery to fail, but all of the after-effects were real. I would hope that you wouldn't literally be using it as a laptop when this happens. Thanks HardOCP.

Java GPL'd

I keep looking to see if it's April 1, but apparently it's true. Sun has released Java under the GPL. All of the code will be released by March of next year. I'm very interested to see what the community will do with the code. Kudos to Sun for releasing it all. Thanks Slashdot.

Ars Technica also offers some commentary on the situation.
