Quake IV Design Thoughts

Raven's Rick Johnson was on hand at QuakeCon and asked the gamers in attendance what they would like to see in the new iteration of Quake. PlanetQuake summarized the attendees' thoughts. I particularly liked this one:
Another request was to try and avoid the cliches that seem to plague many shooters -- sewers, vents, rooms full of crates, etc. A few people noted that they'd like to see more of the city-style maps as in Quake 2, and most of the room seemed to approve.
Amen to that. I really loved Half-Life, but all the crate/jumping puzzles were enough to drive you batty. Q4 will not be out until after the new Doom and will use the new Doom engine. That's how Raven can get all these titles done. Development of Q4 will not start in earnest until after Soldier of Fortune II is completed.
