Starlancer Demo Soon(ish)?

Voodoo Extreme posted a link to Starlancer Vault's Starlancer FAQ that contained this interesting nugget o' info:
When is the demo expected to come out?

The demo for StarLancer is expected to come out in the middle of May. You will be able to fly as a part of the Ronin in events prior to StarLancer just after the outbreak of the war.
Starlancer is the new Digital Anvil (led by Chris Roberts, the founder of the Wing Commander series) space sim. I'd definitely be interested in checking the demo out. I saw the full version in Best Buy yesterday. The box art made it look like an updated version of the original Wing Commander, which would have been enough for me to buy it on general principle if it would have been on sale. Check out the official Starlancer site for more information.

NVIDIA (Mis)Uses GPL'd Code

It seems that someone found a bit of code that NVIDIA had used in their closed-source Linux drivers that was licensed under the General Public License (GPL). The GPL says, among other things, that since GPL'd source code is freely available if you use it in a project, your project's source code must also be freely available. Slashdot reports that someone informed NVIDIA of the problem and, through a polite discussion, the problem was resolved. It's nice to see that things can be "fixed" without resorting to lawsuits.

Take Two purchases GOD

How's that for a subject? :-) According to this Press Release, Take Two has aquired Gathering of Developers-which will supposedly continue to operate as a wholly independent subsidiary. Thanks Blue.

Update: Mike Wilson updated his .plan with additional details on this aquisition. Sounds like a good deal at first glace.

Linux Driver Project Update

I dusted my Linux box and installed a fresh copy of Red Hat 6.2 tonight. I attempted to install the XFree86 4.0-0.6 RPMs but kept getting all kinds of dependency warnings. If anyone has some good suggestions on how to install this and which warnings I can safely ignore, please let me know. I'm still pretty new to all of this.

WON Eastern Server is Down

The Shugashack is reporting that the eastern WON.net server is down, making it impossible for anyone to play Half-Life or any other game that uses WON authorization. There is a temporary work-around described here. They aren't sure what the problem is, nor do they have an estimate on when it will be fixed.
