Team Arena Info -- 11:20 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Quake3World has posted the Quake III: Team Arena portion of their site. It contains a bunch of information on id's offical add-on to Quake III Arena, including four brand-spanking new screenshots. Thanks loonyboi.

MSN Explorer and Spam -- 6:25 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

A new version of MSN Explorer (which includes Internet Explorer and an email client among other things), will apparently send spam to everyone in your email list if you answer yes when asked if they want to contact the people on their list about a change in email. Here's what the message says,

"With MSN Explorer, you can send and receive e-mail, exchange instant messages with me and the millions of other people who use MSN Explorer, browse the Web and much more. MSN Explorer even offers an exciting new look for using the Web and makes it easy to find and play music online. Want to try it out? It's FREE! Just click on the link below and follow the download instructions."

Gamasutra has posted a post mortem for Soldier of Fortune, written by Raven's Eric Biessman. It's a very interesting read, as all of these post mortems have been. This is the first one I've read on a very successful title, though. Thanks Blue's News.

The AvantGo Haus -- 1:15 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Since The Master and I have been working on this since the end of May (story), we decided to put the finishing touches on our AvantGo version of The Haus (AvantGo is a program for viewing web content on your PDA). Right now you can see the news and the three most recent articles. We're going to submit an application to become an official channel very soon. In the meantime, if you want to see the AvantGo version of The Haus, do the following:

1. Go to AvantGo and get the software for your PalmOS or PocketPC PDA.
2. Go to the create channel page.
3. Under "Title:" enter The Haus. Under "Location:" enter http://www.thehaus.net/avantgo. Under "Link Depth:" enter 1 and check "yes" under "Include Images:".
4. Click the "Save Channel" button.

The Haus should appear on your PDA next time you hotsync! Once we become an official channel, we'll give you the proper link. At this point, our channel is optimized for PalmOS devices, but it should work just fine on PocketPC/WinCE devices too. If anyone wants to buy me a PocketPC PDA for research purposes, feel free :)

Daikatana 1.2 Fixes -- 12:58 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

ION Storm's Noel Stephens updated his .plan with the complete list of fixes contained in the 1.2 patch for John Romero's Daikatana (insert your favorite Daikatana joke here). The list is huge, so I'm not even going to attempt to summarize it.

QNX Available Free! -- 9:50 am CST, Update by J.t.Qbe

J.t.Qbe, reporting from sunny western Michigan: Yesterday QNX Software Systems Ltd., maker of the QNX operating system, released its OS as a free download. QNX is a Unixlike operating system which has frequently been used in embedded devices. You can download a demo disk which contains the OS, GUI and web browser all on a 1.44 MB floppy disk. The OS itself has been reported to be quite stable. You can download a 24MB Windows-based installer or a 91MB CD image here.

Rats! I never thought that being in Michigan would ever be a disadvantage, but now I'm away from my T1 connection and CD burner at work! Oh well. Vacation will be over soon enough.

A.T. Hun comments: If memory serves me correctly, A friend of mine and I ran QNX on an original IBM PC way, way back circa 1982. You could even multitask on it. Memories . . .

Q3A 1.25 Revisited -- 9:24 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

One thing I have to say about the Quake III Arena 1.25 patch is that it got me playing CTF again. The bots do seem smarter and make much better use of the map. They aren't anywhere near as predictable as they used to be. I like the idea of the new scoring system (with more points for defense), but the scores get ridiculously high. If they can cure the bug that causes the bots to say the same thing 40 times rapidly in a row, we'll be in business.

Tribes 2 Bomber -- 7:14 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I saw on Shugashack that PlanetStarSiege has posted information on one of the vehicles to be included in Tribes 2, the Thundersword, a three-man bomber. Looks like pretty sweet stuff if it gets implemented well.

M$ Case to Appeals Court -- 2:05 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

CNN is reporting that the Supreme Court will not hear the Microsoft antitrust case, referring it instead to the U.S. Court of Appeals. Many view this as a victory for M$, since the appeals court has ruled in their favor before. Thanks Shugashack.

Tribes 2 Delayed -- 2:00 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Dynamix' Dave Georgeson sent this letter around to the "Tribes community" (I copied it from Blue) announcing that Tribes 2's release will be delayed.

In order to maintain the quality that Tribes fans expect and deserve, Sierra and Dynamix have made the decision to delay shipping Tribes 2 so that we can put the finishing touches on this ambitious project. (We will still hit the scheduled beta date. We just want a longer post-beta period to hone the game.) Because Tribes 2 is a "triple- A" title, we decided it would be best to extend the beta test and appropriately finesse the game so it meets the highest standards. This means we will be able to ensure the greater compatibility testing and play balancing that a game of this scale requires.

While we realize this is disappointing for many gamers, we hope you will agree this is the best decision, as our community deserves no less than our best effort.

So, stay tuned for the beta. We will be announcing a new ship date soon and guarantee it will be worth the wait!

Team Reaction Interview -- 1:22 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

BootMax has slapped up an interview with Team Reaction, the mod team behind Jailbreak for Quake 2 and Quake III Arena, among other projects. It's a relatively decent interview except a) BootMax' page layout causes Netscape 4.75 to crash and burn (violently), and b) the interviewer had to ask who Mr. Elusive was. How can you write about Q3 mods if you don't even know who made Q3?

Final NFL Week #4 Results -- 10:58 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

It was rough, but I ended up 8-6 and Eeyore was 6-8. I'm still a decent 36-22 for the season, but it's been rough after my outstanding 11-4 first week. At least I'm over .500 *cough*

The Master comments: Boy, you are MIGHTY brave goading Eeyore like that, course, I am married to her, so maybe I should be a bit more paranoid than you are . . . :-)
