Wreck Your GBA -- 1:56 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Yesterday IGN found a control on the back of the Game Boy Advance that they said was a contrast control. Eurogamer found out otherwise."A positive and negative voltage controls Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs)," the worrying Nintendo statement begins. "The 'contrast control' that you are referring to is actually a flicker control. The adjustment is used to synchronize the positive and negative voltages. If these voltages are out of adjustment then the LCD will no longer respond correctly. The result will be an excess charge built up in the liquid crystal and permanently damage the LCD. The excessive charge gives the appearance of a brighter screen because the liquid crystal is not reacting properly to the voltages applied. When the adjustment of the voltages is correct the changing polarities will not allow a charge to build up, which prolongs the LCD life."Oops! Thanks Evil Avatar.

Q3A 1.29f Known Issues -- 11:10 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I just got an automated email back from id when I sent a bug report (three files that came with the 1.27g Linux patch are not included with the 1.29f patch). Here are a list of currently known issues, so you know you don't have to submit a report:- I AM RUNNING WINDOWS NT 4.0 AND I'M GETTING NO SOUND - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO CHANGE MY RAIL COLOR WITHIN THE MENUs - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- THE BURN MARK LEFT ON A WALL BY MY RAIL GUN IS A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN MY RAIL ITSELF - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- +(PLUS) and -(MINUS) commands no longer work - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- DEVELOPER CHEATS LIKE R_SHOWTRIS HAVE BEEN DISABLED IN THE POINT RELEASE - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- MY OLD DEMOS WILL NOT WORK WITH THE LATEST VERSION OF THE POINT RELEASE - This is a side effect of changing protocols within the game. There is nothing that we can do about this. Changing protocols allows up to make significant advancements to the game (such as the new network code), and helps up prevent cheating.
- THERE IS A BIG GREY TEXTURE UNDER THE PLASMA GUN ON PRO-Q3DM3 - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release. If you have the 3wave CTF maps installed you will not have a problem seeing the texture.
- MY RAIL GUN EFFECT WILL DISAPPEAR WHEN IT IS FIRED A LONG DISTANCE ON A TERRAIN MAP - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
- MY MOUSE FEELS DIFFERENT THAN IT DID IN THE LAST VERSION - This is a known issue and something that we are planning to address for the full release.
