Congratulations go out to J.t. and Mrs. Qbe who were blessed with a baby boy on Monday afternoon! That makes six boys between J.t.Qbe, The Master, and myself--all under the age of five. Crezzy. TM, you are on the clock!

Wolfie OSX Test 2 Released -- 10:28 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

id's Graeme Devine updated his .plan with word that the Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer test 2 for Mac OSX has been released. Here's the scoop:

An OS X (10.1) build of the Wolfenstein MP Test 2 is up and available for download. I've not gone through and fixed all the niggles I want to get done, but hey it's there. There's also a separate command line dedicated server since that's been requested quite a few times.

issues:

• You need to nuke the old test before installing and running this one.
• SMP doesn't currently work and is disabled by default. Don't turn it on.
• This is not a fully optimized build.

NFL Week #8 Final -- 11:39 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Well, I dropped the last two games, but I still ended up 9-5. Eeyore was 8-6. Year-to-date that makes me 68-45 (.602, YES! Back over .600) and Eeyore is 60-53 (.531). To top it all off, my fantasy football team crushed my opponent 111-59. A good time was had by all, except maybe my opponent.

ATi's Radeon 8500 Cheats -- 9:52 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The Tech Report has an article on how ATi's Radeon 8500 drivers cheat to achieve higher scores in Quake III Arena. The evidence is pretty compelling. It reminds me of when a video card manufacturer was caught hard-coding bits of PC Magazine's PC Labs tests into their products to make them appear to be faster than the competition. D'oh! This "phenomenon" was first detailed on HardOCP. Thanks Shacknews.

The Master comments: "Optimizing" drivers for specific benchmarks was all the rage about 6 or 7 years ago. I don't remember all the specifics, but I do remember this being an issue with S3 and some other companies playing loose and fast to get better numbers. The more things change . . .
