Yet Another Return to Wolfie? -- 1:04 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I saw on several sites about a quote fro, id's Kevin Cloud on RTCW World. He said that there most likely will be another Wolfenstein game, hopefully done by Gray Matter. Here's the news:

There will be another Wolfenstein game. Hopefully we'll get a chance to work with Gray Matter again. Drew and I will probably meet sometimes later this year to discuss it.

I can never remember if they are "Grey" or "Gray."

3DO Swings the Axe -- 1:00 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Celestial Heavens is reporting that 3DO has laid off 2/3 of the New World Computing staff, including most of those who worked on Might and Magic IX and Heroes of Might and Magic IV. Here's the choice they were given:

Either move to San Francisco to work on 3DO titles, with no moving expenses paid, and a maximum allowed time for the move of 2 weeks (which must come out of accrued vacation time), or they could accept a month's severance pay.

Whee! Thanks, 3DO! You guys rule! Has there been an entertainment company that has been more of a failure in every endeavor than 3DO? Thanks Shacknews.

J.t.Qbe comments: Too bad--NWC has produced the real moneymakers for 3DO. Times are tough all over. Still, I hear that there are plans for a Heroes 5, but I'd guess that there'll be no more Might & Magics. That means that IX is the end of the great triad of RPGs--Ultima ended a few years ago, Wizardry last year and now M&M. Too bad.

J.t.Qbe comments: **UPDATE** GameSpyDaily quotes an NWC designer who says that all is not lost: "we have a solid team remaining who will continue to make the great games we always have. It will be like the old days... we'll do it one game at a time :)" Might & Magic X, here we come! I hope.

How Not to Review -- 10:14 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I just read the TechTV review of Jedi Knight II. Obviously, I'm a big fan of the game, so that will color my opinion. But when I read the review, I can't help but wonder if they actually finished the game or if they are familiar with the Star Wars universe at all. They go through the entire review without ever talking about lightsaber combat except in passing. They complain about the "inanely unsafe work environments in the universe." Hello? Ever watch any of the movies? How many places on the Death Star (or Bespin, or Naboo, etc.) have drop-to-your-death chasms with no handrails? About a million? Granted, there are places in JKII where the level design is a bit maddening, but it is not impossible to overcome. The author's one paragraph on multiplayer manages to be both confusing and contradictory.

In the end, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. Not every game will appeal to everyone. But quite often reviews will say just as much about the reviewer as it does about the game.

SoF2 MP Test Thursday -- 9:14 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Blue got word that Raven will be releasing a multiplayer test of Soldier of Fortune 2 next Thursday. The test will initially only be available on FilePlanet, but it shouldn't take long for mirrors to pop up. I'm going to give it a whirl, but I don't know if I'm really that interested in picking it up. I think I'm going to be spending too much time with Jedi Knight II multiplayer.
