Shifter FAQ

Douglas Crews whipped up an awesome FAQ for the Shifter class introducted in Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark. If there's something missing from this FAQ, you probably don't need to know it. I've been going through the original NWN with a character that is currently a Druid 5 / Shifter 5. I didn't want to jump right to higher levels so I could get a "feel" for the class. I'll take him into HotU eventually. (Ed. note: link repaired)

More NFL Playoffs

Last week, I was 3-1 with my playoff picks while Eeyore was 2-2. This weekend, I'm taking the Rams, Patriots, Colts, and Eagles.

The Master comments: Eeyore's only difference is she's taking the Packers. Here's to hoping they can pile on a ton of running yards this weekend.

Scroll Buttons Working in Linux

I managed to get the little scroll buttons on my Logitech Marble Mouse to work in Linux. I just had to make sure that my /etc/X11/XF86Config file contained the information from this site in order for it to work. The key was that it has to be going through the PS/2 port with the little adapter thingy. If I tried to use it as USB, it wouldn't work. I'm not sure why. Due to the ephemeral nature of the web, I reproduce the mouse section from XF86Config in its entirety:

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "MouseManPlusPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "Buttons" "5"
    Option "Emulate3Buttons"
    Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50"
EndSection

This will enable those scroll buttons to work and use the left and right button clicked together to emulate a middle button.

The LG Saga Ends

You'll never guess what came via Airborne Express this morning: my LG GCC-4520B! I've tested it by playing an audio CD, a DVD, and burning a CD-R. Everything seems to work well, except the burning part. It worked, but it was flaky. Burn-Free kicked in five times. LG claims that Memorex high-speed media is to blame. I'll get one of the brands they recommend and see if that fixes everything.

So here's the final score:

The Master comments: I just got a new Sony DVD-R/CD-RW and I've been quite pleased with it so far. I haven't tried burning CD/RWs yet (which is why I wanted to replace the old one--that stopped working on my LG drive) but the DVD stuff is sweet :-)

UPDATE! From looking closer at the box it arrived in, it appears that they sent the drive next-day air. It's nice that they did that in acknowledgement of how long the whole process took.
