Early NFL Week #12 Picks

Since there are two games tomorrow, here are my picks: Colts, Cowboys. Man, is that second game going to be ug-ly.

The Master comments: Eeyore's picks are the same. So, we can enjoy football today without any competition :-) Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Ars Reviews the Nintendo DS

Ars Technica posted one of their high-quality reviews, this time of the Nintendo DS. That's their new dual-screen portable gaming system. Here's a snip on its built-in wireless networking:

This can be a killer app for this system. Think about it, fully 3D games like Metroid, Mario 64, and even Goldeneye are easily made for the DS, and with wireless built in you're carrying a LAN party in your pocket. You just turn on your DS, put in the game, and you're playing against up to 16 other people in a network (the range is listed at 100 feet, but in my experience anything past 30 can get touchy) and there is no split screen, everyone has their own monitor.

The DS looks pretty slick, but they really need more games to make use of its new features.

Intel Adopts AMD64

Intel's 64-bit extensions FAQ indicates (very quietly) that their new 64-bit processors will basically be the same as AMD's AMD64. This is very pragmatic on Intel's part and also very fortunate for the rest of us so that there aren't a zillion consumer-level 64-bit standards floating about. Apparently the Linux kernel folks have decided to simply call it x86-64 although Linus Torvalds thought for a second about calling it "AMD64" to give credit where credit is due. Kudos to AMD! Thanks Slashdot.

NFL Week #11 Final

Well, this certainly was a much better week. A late TD by the Jets meant that I am 12-4 while Eeyore is 13-3. That makes me 99-61 (.619) while Eeyore is 97-63 (.606). My Fightin' Wombats even manged to eek out an ugly win this weekend. I'm virtually a lock to make the playoffs now, although one more win would definitely seal it. Once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen . . .
