Pondering the Imponderable

After four and a half days in the shop, my car is finally back from its head gasket job. Along the way, a power steering line and a cam shaft sensor (the wires to it were beginning to fray) were replaced as well. The heads were tested and found to be good. The valve seals were replaced. It seems to run great, but it'll be a week or so before I really "trust" it again. Hopefully, I can squeeze another three years out of the car. The total job set me back $1,221.45. Thankfully, I overpaid my taxes by almost the same amount.

I've Created a Monster

I recently rented Burnout 3: Takedown for my PS2. I really wanted to get a good arcade racer, and this one fits the bill perfectly. The controls are very easy to learn, but difficult to master. I spend a lot of time giggling like a schoolgirl at the carnage. What was unexpected is how my wife has taken to the game. I think she may be hooked. Anyone know a good Burnout 3 twelve-step program? I've a feeling that we'll be purchasing this one . . .

The Master comments: Kind of sounds like Eeyore and Vice City. Or Quake for that matter. The only solution I've seen seems to be boredom :-)

GNU/Hurd Actually Does Something

After about 15 years of work, a program has finally been executed using the GNU/Hurd L4 kernel. Boy, at this rate they might be able to access the Internet by 2030! Hurd seems to be a case study in how just because something is a technically better idea, doesn't mean that it's the best way to go. It took a couple of years after the Netscape 4 code was ditched that Mozilla came about. Why Hurd has taken so long is beyond me. It seems to be an answer to a question no one is asking.
