Bleh

The whole family went to the Reds vs. Brewers game down in Milwaukee on Saturday. What I learned is that my eyes suck so bad that I can only watch a baseball game in person through 12 power binoculars. Then it dawned on me that there's no point in ever going to a football game -- I would never be able to keep up with the action using binocs. Oh, well.

One fun thing I learned about the find command today: if it errors out, it moves on to the NEXT statement in the find, and doesn't bomb all the way. So, instead of crashing out on an old file delete in a program folder today, my find/rm statement blew away every application file in that folder. Thankfully it only takes a minute to put it all back. Brilliant.

Pondering the Imponderable

Welcome to May! We celebrated up here in Northern Wisconsin by getting a few quick flurries. We've been at least 10°F colder than average for a couple of weeks now. The forecast is calling for things to get up to normal by the end of the week. That'd be nice.

Lego Star Wars is proving to be crack. All three of my boys like to play it. I get a little frustrated playing co-op with them since they don't want to believe that I actually know what I'm talking about. At any rate, I've made it through the Episode I and II parts of the game. Right now, I'm still classifying it as a must-buy.

The Master comments: Where is this May thing you speak of? I'm pretty sure it's early November right now.

Duke Nukem Forever Timeline

Last Friday I made reference to Duke Nukem Forever. I decided to do a little snooping (well, Googling actually) and see if anyone had written up a DNF timeline. Sure enough, somebody did that very thing on the video.gamin.network forums. So, as I mentioned in my previous article, not only had DNF changed engines by the time I commented about it in January of 2000, but it had been in the works for three years already! Of course, much of that timeline assumes that everything that the 3D Realms folks have said about the game at one time or another is gospel truth. That's at best dubious.
