Fun with Kernels

I noticed that the 2.4.22 kernel was released today, so I decided to download it and see if it would fix my "puke on shutdown" problem. The good news is that it did. Actually, I found out that my original kernel could fix it too. I just had to add this CONFIG_APM_REAL_MODE_POWER_OFF=y to my .config file and recompile. Alternately, you could find the APM Real Power Mode selection after a make xconfig too. Now my box shuts down fine.

For some stupid reason, I couldn't get the emu10k1 driver to compile properly to support my Audigy, either with the 2.4.22 kernel or the stock Slackware 2.4.21. I ended up downloading the emu10k1 driver and compiling it separately. Stupid, but it works.

In case your wondering if I feel overwhelmingly 1337 since I compiled my own kernel, the answer is "yes."
