SD Card for My PDA -- 8:42 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I just plopped down some cash for a 256M Secure Digital card for my Palm Tungsten E. It is a Panasonic card that I got from Wal-Mart of all places. They had a better price than anybody I've seen. According to the threads I've perused, Panasonics are supposed to be the best and fastest. You'll pay a bit more, but it's worth it. I converted the cool Duality Star Wars fan movie to fullscreen Kinoma format and played it back over the SD card with no problems. Very cool, although it is weird to think that my PDA has over a quarter gig of storage. It also seems odd to have 256M of RAM in a format that I could unwittingly inhale.

I also bought a cheap PNY USB SD/MMC reader. That works very well and very quickly with Linux. All I had to do is add this line to my /etc/fstab:

/dev/sda1 /mnt/reader vfat noauto,user 0 0

Now all I have to do is pop in the card and type mount /mnt/reader and there it is! Much easier (and faster) than transferring everything through syncing, especially since that's not supported in Linux just yet, at least not until the next revision of the pilot-link tools come out.

And for those of you keeping score at home, most Photo applications look for pictures in an aptly named /DCIM directory on the SD card while Kinoma looks for movies in /PALM/Programs/Kinoma or in /PALM/Launcher.
