Thanks, LG! Not!

I'd personally like to thank the jackholes at LG for my GCC-4480 CD-RW/DVD-ROM. It was getting to the point that it was having a very hard time reading some media, particularly ones it had created. Also, it has that problem that Mandrake ran into with an ATAPI command causing it to drop its firmware (hooray for QA!). A firmware upgrade was supposed to fix these things. Thus, I moved the drive to my kids' Windows box, followed the instructions to the letter, and started the firmware upgrade. Lockup. Wait. Still locked up. Wait. Cold reboot, dead drive. What a POS. I've had nothing but trouble with every non-Sony optical drive I've ever purchased. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now. The stupid thing is still under warranty, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

UPDATE! When I called LG tech support they took my name and number, saying that someone would get back in touch with me within 5-10 minutes. Well, seven hours later . . . nothing. Maybe they meant 5-10 business days.
