NHL D-Day R.I.P.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has set 1:00 P.M. U.S. Eastern time for a press conference to announce the cancellation of the season. Right now, all the major items have been worked out. They are only $6.5 million apart on the cap. On Monday they were ~$12 million. If they let that little bit kill the whole season, then a pox on both their households.

Update! It's over. They cancelled it. I can't believe it. I'm absolutely numb.

Update #2! I still can't believe that it's over. The only NHL hockey I'll see will be on my PS2. I got a Red Wings DVD box set from my folks for my birthday and now I don't even want to look at it. The really sad thing is that the negotiations probably won't resume again until the 2005-6 season is in danger of being wiped out. In other words, we'll be in this same mess this time next year.
