BitTorrent Blues -- 5:13 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I've had a very strange problem recently. I was trying to download the Star Wars: Revelations fan-made movie via BitTorrent, but it kept causing my box to lock up hard. I couldn't even SSH in from my other box. It happened regardless of whether I used Azureus or the regular BitTorrent client. Otherwise my box has been rock solid. I can play games, download from the web or FTP, compile stuff, etc. with no problems. Odd. After perusing Google, I found that some people solved lock-up problems with the 2.6.11 kernel by passing noinotify to the kernel at boot time. That delayed the lock-ups long enough so that I could actually get the movie downloaded, but eventually it locked up while I was letting the file seed. Nothing shows up in syslog. That almost screams "hardware problem!" but I can't get it to happen any other way. I'm currently compiling 2.6.11.7. We'll see if that helps at all.
