Slackware 10.2 Ponderings -- 5:13 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Here's a couple things I've noticed about Slackware 10.2 already.

1. The supplied 2.6 kernel works great. I just wish they'd add an option to the installer so that the kernel modules, 2.6.x ALSA, and kernel source would automatically be installed if you choose that kernel. I know it's technically only a "test" kernel, but still. Nevertheless, it's nice not to have to compile a new kernel immediately.
2. Pat moved the permissions for udev from the permissions.d directory and made them a part of the udev.rules file. No biggie, but I had to look at the old changelog to see what had happened. The only reason I need to edit permissions is so that I can sync my PDA without being root.
3. This isn't Slackware-specific, but it bears mentioning. Before you dust your box, make sure you have a recent backup of /etc. You'll thank me later. It's also a good idea to back up anything critical in your /home directory in case you accidentally rm -rf something important. I did that once about a year ago. The only thing that would've made me feel worse is if I hadn't just made a backup.
