dvd::rip -- 9:15 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun
After trying for a very long time, I was finally able to get dvd::rip working on my computer. I had to spend a lot of time at CPAN to get all of the Perl modules that the program requires that weren't included with Slackware 11. I needed to get Gtk2 (which, in turn, required Glib and Cairo), Event, ExtUtils-Depends, ExtUtils-PkgConfig, and libintl-perl, plus the ones that came with dvd::rip, AnyEvent, Event-ExecFlow, Event-RPC, and Gtk2-Ex-FormFactory. That's a lot of "perl Makefile.PL;make;make test;make install". Of course, then I discovered that I forgot to install xvidcore which also meant I had to recompile ffmpeg and transcode. Grr.
I basically wanted to convert some stuff so I could view it on my Palm TX. For that, dvd::rip worked nicely. Was it worth the effort? Yeah, it was. It's a very powerful program. I just wish it wasn't such a PITA to fulfill all of its dependencies. A sane person probably wouldn't try to work through all of this. Thankfully, CPAN made getting and installing the Perl modules relatively painless.
