Quad-Core Kentsfield Reviews

Ars Technica has a meta-article (how's that for abuse of a buzzword?) on the reviews of Intel's new quad-core processor, the Kentsfield aka Core 2 Quad. The long and the short of it is that if you have programs that spawn more than two threads, a Kentsfield will provide you will a boost--sometimes up to 50% over the already impressive Core 2 Duo. If you don't (for example, if you are playing games), the Kentsfield won't do anything for you besides consume more power. That is likely to change, but not for at least a year. It seems the best avenue now would be to take advantage of the cheaper Core 2 Duo, knowing that you can upgrade to a Core 2 Quad in the future. Regardless, the quad core chips are undeniably cool. At $1G, they'd better be.
