3dfx Ships V5-5500s -- 9:33 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Believe it or don't, according to this press release, 3dfx has begun shipment of their new Voodoo5-5500 for the expected release date of May 26 (this Friday for the calendarically challenged). Most of the press release is quotes from gaming or hardware webmasters with made-up titles. Too bad they didn't ask me. I could call myself A.T. Hun, Vice-Pope and Patron Saint of The Haus. It would have been great.J.t.Qbe comments: No one would have believed it. Everyone knows that the Vice-Pope's name is Eric.

Keith Fuller, Raven Software programmer, answers the musical question how much of the Quake II engine remains in Soldier of Fortune? It's an interesting read if you want to get "behind" the game a little bit. Thanks Blue.5.22 Detonators -- 9:08 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun
OK, so I wanted to post this about two days ago. Oh well. The latest NVIDIA Win9x Detonator drivers (v5.22) have been leaked to the Net. You can get them from 3D Chipset or, as always, Reactor Critical. The big feature of these new drivers is that they enable full-scene antialiasing in Direct3D if you have a GeForce--but with a HUGE framerate hit.History today -- 8:28 am CST, Update by The Master

GreenMarine Wasn't Canned -- 3:52 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Mark Rein wrote to Blue to confirm that Brandon "GreenMarine" Reinhart had NOT been fired by Epic as some had foolishly surmised. Here's the whole thing, yanked with extreme prejudice. There has been some speculation that we fired Brandon. This is completely untrue. We were very happy with Brandon's work. He made a big contribution to the success of Unreal Tournament and laid the majority of the groundwork that got our engine up and running on PlayStation 2 in so little time. At Epic he was part of a 4-man programming team working on the technology side of our PlayStation 2 efforts and I know he longed to be doing more challenging gameplay-specific programming similar to what Steve Polge does at Epic. Brandon was very professional about his departure choosing to leave after the E3 "crunch" and with no unfinished tasks. If he was going to leave he chose the best possible time with the least possible impact to our current projects and for that we're grateful. We'll miss Brandon but we wish him great success at 3D Realms and our already high expectations for Duke Nukem Forever will now be raised even higher!
Q3A Jailbreak Beta 2 Released -- 3:46 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
Beta 2 of the Jailbreak mod for Quake III Arena has been released. Well, partially anyway. Some new and revised maps from Sul are available now. You can get them from the Jailbreak files page. Soon more maps will be released, along with some code changes. You can check out my review of the first beta here. My main gripe with the old beta was map-related more than code-related. Here's to hoping some of the problems were addressed.
