Microsoft Targets Unix--Using Unix -- 3:36 pm CST, Update by J.t.Qbe
This one sounds like an April Fool's joke, but as far as I can tell it's true. Microsoft recently launched an ad campaign against Unix. They're going to show you how inflexible and costly Unix is compared to Windows (ha ha). They even have their own website devoted to the campaign: www.wehavethewayout.com.Want to know what OS the site's running? Go to http://uptime.netcraft.com and paste www.wehavethewayout.com into the "Examine" box on the left side. The result: Microsoft's anti-Unix site is running on FreeBSD. Ummm. . . no comment necessary.
Microsoft Buys AOL -- 3:30 pm CST, Update by J.t.Qbe
AOL has given up the fight. In a widely-criticized deal, the media giant has been sold to Microsoft for a mere $42 billion. AOL representatives cited its recent financial woes as the motivation behind the sale. This is the end, folks. Microsoft now owns Netscape, its former best competitor. It now owns AOL, which MSN could never beat. Some of the details of the deal:- All AOL subscribers will automatically be switched over to MSN and required to sign up for Passport accounts.
- All new PCs will require an AOL/MSN "activation" in order to make Windows XP operational.
- Those annoying AOL CDs you get in the mail every day will now contain Windows XP upgrades for those who are still using 95, 98 or 2K. A bargain at $75.
- Microsoft now becomes owner of all Time-Warner's properties. Bill Gates: your new cable guy.

Pondering the Imponderable -- 8:30 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun
First of all, happy Easter to you and yours from the staff of The Haus! I've been eating ham like Cartman today. I'm going to have to hit the after-Easter chocolate rabbit sales. Hopefully I can schlep down to Green Bay tomorrow to pick up Jedi Knight II.I've been futzing with Mozilla's tabbed browsing feature. Basically instead of opening new pages into new windows, a new tab appears (using a file-folder motif). It works rather slick. It's much easier to keep track of what pages you have open.
I've also been using OpenOffice 641D a bit more. I'm growing more and more impressed. It loads pretty quickly--of course I can't tell if that is an actual code improvement or if it's because of my fancy new box. It handles TrueType fonts like a champ--even with antialiasing! It can import DOCs and RTFs better than any other Linux word processor I've tried. I could see myself switching to it from WordPerfect for Linux.
JKII: Jedi Outcast Review -- 11:34 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun
epiGamer posted a review of Raven's Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Of all the reviews I've read, this one has the best English and does a good job of covering the game without giving away too much.As J.t. noted before, Best Buy (no affiliation) has it for $39 this week. My only decision is whether to get that or the collector's edition which includes Dark Forces and the original Jedi Knight.
