Thanksgiving Football -- 10:42 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Time for the greatest tradition in all sports, the Detroit Lions' Thanksgiving Day game! This tradition dates back to 1936. Unfortunately, I cannot bring myself to pick them, even though I'll probably regret it later. Thus I pick Patriots and the Redskins for today's games.

MOO3 Q&A -- 10:32 pm CST, Update by The Master

There's a new Q&A with Constantine Hantzopoulos, producer on Quicksilver's upcoming Master of Orion 3. He goes into what is holding up the game, and some of the new stuff to get excited about. Man, I wish they'd release this game :-)

J.t.Qbe comments: And I'm STILL waiting for Stars! Supernova Genesis. It may become the Duke Nukem Forever of strategy games.

I was on the NWN website checking out their web boards, and I wanted to take a quick peek at their board source code. So, in IE I right-clicked and hit "View Source", like I always do. And nothing happened. So, I tried it again with the same results, under the assumption that the PC must have just been ignoring me (I yell at people for printing documents at work 100 times because it didn't print right away. So I guess here's my sign . . .) So, I snoop around Google trying to find an answer: purge my IE page cache. Wow, that's a feature. My CACHE was too big for IE to VIEW PAGE SOURCE.

Mayhaps it's time for me to switch to Mozilla. Then I could be greeted by that cool dragon every day too. :-)

Battlefield 1942 1.2 Patch Released -- 4:16 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The 1.2 patch of the U.S. version of Battlefield 1942 has been released. There is a 21.9M patch and a 56.1M dedicated server. You can get them both from 3D Gamers. They also have a full list of the changes for you to peruse.

Dvorak Plugs Mozilla -- 3:15 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I just got my new issue of PC Magazine today. As is my custom, I first turn to the back and read "Backspace." After that I turn to John Dvorak's column. In this month's edition, he talks about how he has switched from IE to Mozilla. It's nice to see my favorite browser getting some credit in the mainstream press.

Shadows of Undrentide Linux Support? -- 2:51 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I posted a question on the Neverwinter Nights Shadows of Undrentide forum asking about Linux support in the coming expansions. Bioware's Derek French gave this somewhat veiled response:

Well, we are not doing anything to explicitly block Mac and Linux versions... :)

Seriously though, the data file formats have always been cross platform so there is no reason why they won't work and I think it would be in our best interests to make them work, don't you?

I'll take that as a definite maybe.

Shadows of Undrentide NWN Expansion Announced -- 11:01 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

Blue's News got the official press release from Atari, announcing the Shadows of Undrentide expansion for Neverwinter Nights. Here's a snip:

Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide will include a new 40-hour single player campaign as well as game features new to Neverwinter Nights, such as additional D&D™ skills, feats, classes, monsters, weapons and spells. In addition, the pack will include two new tile sets and other assets for use in the Aurora toolset that will enable amateur module designers to create completely different worlds.

The game is being co-developed by BioWare Corp., creators of the original game and the popular Baldur's Gate series, and FloodGate Entertainment, a company made up of developers largely from Looking Glass Studios. A second expansion pack with a new Neverwinter Nights campaign and even more features is also in the works for Summer 2003 and is under development exclusively at BioWare Corp.

UPDATE! There is now an official Shadows of Undrentide page on Bioware's Neverwinter Nights site. The only thing there right now is the press release and a link to the Undrentide forum.

Pondering the Imponderable -- 9:33 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

I thought this was supposed to be a slow news week! I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving early. Make sure to root for the Lions! If you live in a country that doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving, have a happy Thursday. If you're just an ungrateful little toady, then have a miserable Thanksgiving!

I couldn't get to sleep to save my life last night. I played some UT2K3 to try to work out some frustration and then downloaded Mozilla 1.2. I think it was 1:45 A.M. before I finally fell asleep after reading The Onion on Avantgo on my PDA.

I've been fiddling with Mozilla's new Type Ahead Find feature. It's useful as a replacement for using "Edit->Find in This Page" if nothing else. Unfortunately, I think it has an adverse affect on The Haus' news entry system. I lose the ability to use the cursor keys. I've turned it off for now to see if that is actually the problem.

Mozilla 1.2 Released -- 12:16 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun

The Mozilla team has released version 1.2 of their web browsing suite. You can download it here and check out the release notes here. Get downloading! I know I am. I would highly encourage anyone who hasn't tried Mozilla yet to give 1.2 a spin. You'll be glad you did.

UPDATE! The release notes encourage Linux users to download the latest Flash 6 beta plugin released a week ago. That fixes some problems with Flash in Mozilla. As a matter of fact, Mozilla 1.3 Alpha probably won't support Flash 5 any more. I've been using a slightly older version of the Flash 6 alpha with almost no problems.

UPDATE #2! This released was pulled due to a DHTML bug that creeped in. Download 1.2.1 instead.
