Setting up Devices in Linux

Well kids, I took advantage of a slow news day to whip up three new pages for our Tips and Tricks section. As I've been mentioning for the past week, I've been setting up Red Hat Linux 6.1 on my system. Some devices were more difficult to set up that others. The ones that required the most tweaking were my ATAPI Zip drive, my SoundBlaster Live! Value, and my plug-and-play modem (a Zoom 2919 Internal).

After a week of scouring the Net and reading FAQs, I figured out how to get all three working. I'd like to share the fruits of my labors with you. So here are my guides for setting up the ATAPI Zip drive, the Sound Blaster Live! Value, and the plug-and-play modem. All of these were written with Red Hat 6.0/6.1 in mind, but they should work on other Linux varieties as well. I don't pretend to be a Linux guru, I just hope what I've learned will be helpful to others.

Special thanks to J.t. Qbe for spending a bunch of time on the phone and over email with me to get things going.

J.t.Qbe comments: Always glad to help a new convert!
