DOOM III Definitely Coming to Linux -- 7:03 pm CST, Update by A.T. Hun

id's John Carmack talked a bit about Linux during his speech about DOOM III at QuakeCon today. Here's what he had to say, courtesy of the good people at Linux Games:

There will "absolutely" be a Linux port.
The DOOM III codebase was brought up on Mac OSX recently by Graeme Devine, which should head off any major portability issues for Linux
The only card drivers currently capable of running DOOM III on Linux are NVIDIA's (the game utilizes API extensions only available on Linux with their drivers); Carmack indicated that he would be open to assisting "credible" open source driver projects for other video cards.

Dare I say . . . w00t! Hey, ATi! How about getting some good Linux drivers for your sweet Radeon 9700 in the meantime?
