Pondering the Imponderable -- 11:17 am CST, Update by A.T. Hun
I got my Slackware 9.0 CDs yesterday. Not bad, since I just ordered them on Tuesday. The CDs come in a nice four-disc jewel case like the one the Diablo II discs came in. Here's what's on the discs:
- The standard Slackware installation CD (I assume it's the same as the downloadable ISO)
- An "extras" disc (with the kernel source, KDE i18n, etc.) that doubles as a ready-to-boot Linux. Just pop the disc in and set your box to boot to the CD. Soon you'll be running Linux, complete with X
- A disc with the source code and Slackware Linux Essentials book in HTML format. I wish I had known about that book when I started with Linux.
- A disc with more source, ZipSlack (for running Slackware from a Zip disc or a DOS/VFAT partition), and the older /pasture packages.
All told, it's a good deal if you don't want to spend all day downloading ISOs (especially since the last three discs aren't available as ISOs) or if you just want to support the continuing development of Slackware.
